The Long Night of Music

Music lovers and "night owls" are looking forward to the Long Night of Music, because in this night about 80 venues cooperate to create this major event from 8.00 pm to 3.00 am.
A versatile program will be offered from live Jazz, Rock, Pop, classical music or Klezmer to cabaret and church music.
Visitors can reach the different venues using the well tried shuttle bus system.

The Town Foundation Festival

14 - 15 June 2008 

In the jubilee year the Town Foundation Festival will take place between Marienplatz, Stachus and Odeonsplatz in an expanded form. Artists of all kinds will show the diversity of the town's cultural life.

The reopening of the Cuvilliés Theatre

14 June 2008

After the completion of the renovation work, theatrical performances at Munich's oldest existing opera house are to be resumed with Mozart's opera "Idomeneo" – on the occasion of the 850th anniversary of Munich's foundation.

28th Munich Film Festival

20 - 28 June 2008

Cinema enthusiasts, international stars, young talents, film industry agents and journalists meet to discover late-breaking movies. Many German~, European~ and world premieres are part of the program.
The cinemas along the "Isarmeile", e. g. the Rio cinema, Gasteig cinema, and even the Film Museum will be the venues of this event.

The Opera Festival

28 June – 31 July 2008

Some of the highlights of the Munich Opera Festival are the two Festival premieres: the premiere of Doktor Faust by Ferrucio Busoni, on 28th June (musical director: Tomás Netopil; production: Nicolas Brieger) and Ariadne on Naxos by Richard Strauss on 24th July (musical director: Kent Nagano; production: Robert Carsen).
On 12th July the Festival Concert "Opera for All" will take place on the Marstallplatz under the musical direction of Kent Nagano (free admission): the symphony No 1, in D minor, D 944 by Charles Ives and the Symphony No 9, in C major, D 944 "The Great" by Franz Schubert will be performed.
The handling of the written orders begins on 1st February 2008. Advance sales at the festival box office is on Saturday, 12th January 2008, from 10 am to 7 pm. The sale of the remaining tickets begins on 31st March 2008

Classical Music at the Odeonsplatz – Open Air

05 - 06 July 2008

Munich's annual open air concert of classical music will take place for the eighth time in 2008. This concert, presented by the Department of Arts and Culture, the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Bavarian broadcasting corporation, is one of the highlights of Munich's cultural events this summer.
Celebrating beneath the stars at Odeonsplatz feels like strolling an Italian piazza, surrounded by festively illuminated historical buildings like the Theatinerkirche and the Residenz.
